Tim Tebow, the footballer cum motivational speaker, has opened up about how he dealt with negative thoughts throughout his career in the hopes to encourage others.
The 28 year old former NFL player, stays active in public with a dedication to hosting charity events, his foundation, and hospital in the Philippines.
Speaking about his struggle when dealing ups and downs of life, he said, "Whether you're sitting on the edge of the bed and you're thinking 'there're 32 [NFL] teams and nobody wants me' or 'no one wants me to do what I want to do.' Or you get another opportunity, and you don't make it. I've been cut four times. Well only three, but traded once, so it kind of counts as four," he told Rolling Stone in an interview with a laugh.
The footballer, who holds college gigs with ESPN, said that negative thoughts can be battled by being transparent about them.
"Part of when you really get to encourage people is you also get to do that through your weaknesses and shortcomings. Because not everybody can relate to my highs, but there're a lot of people that can relate to my lows," he said.
The young speaker is also excited for his upcoming book, Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life's Storms. Believing that his struggles have happened for the right reasons, he hopes that people relate to the book and it encourages anyone who reads it.
The book is slated to be released in October this year.
