My children are continually teaching me valuable lessons and God really speaks to me a lot through this rollercoaster ride called parenthood.
This week I gained a fresh revelation in trusting God’s timing and remaining content while I wait through observing my son one morning.
My son knew we had swimming lessons on this day, yet he wasn’t worried in the slightest in getting there on time, whether we would make it there safely or not, whether he’d have the right gear or even if it got cancelled. Why? Because he simply trusted me. He knew I would tell him when it was time to get ready and when it was time to go. He knew I would provide everything he needed. And while he waited, he was happily playing without a care in the world.
Resting while we wait
Psalm chapter 37 verse seven proclaims, “Be still in the presence of the Lord and wait patiently for him to act”.
While I watched my son happily play before getting ready for his swimming lesson, I really felt God speak to my heart. I felt him say:
Look how content he is while he waits. He knows he has swimming lessons on, yet he isn’t concerned when he’ll go, he knows when the time is right you will take him there. I want you to learn to trust me like that. To rest and be still while you wait.
This may not sound like a major revelation, but to me it was a fresh perspective on waiting and waiting happily. I don’t know if you’re anything like me but often I want God to work on my terms; on my schedule, in my timing and what I think would be good. But thankfully, God knows best.
His Ways are always higher
Isaiah chapter 55 verses 8-9says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
God’s ways are always higher than our ways (thankfully!) and we need to learn to trust him, with all our heart.
Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Just as I love my children and want the very best for them, God loves us; his kids, yet with a love far greater than we can imagine. May we learn to trust God and trust in his divine timing, even if things are seemingly taking a little longer than we would like.
Who knows, He may be developing some important qualities within us, that He knows we will need in the next part of our lives that is awaiting us.
Regardless of our current situation I am always encouraged by Romans chapter 8, verse 28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
