It’s all out war on the unborn. On January 22nd, the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo signed the Reproductive Health Act, deliberately engineered to coincide with the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Under the new abortion law, a foetus can be killed at any point up to birth.
A few days later Virginia passed an abortion bill that sponsor, Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran stated would allow a foetus to be terminated even while the mother‘s uterus is contracting to give birth. This is insane! Both are in gruesome agreement that unborn babies, if the conditions are right, can be killed in-utero moments before birth.
The Push for Abortion
But why? At the very base of the push for abortion are three illogical thoughts. Firstly, that intrauterine life can be ignored. Secondly, that abortion is a human right. And thirdly that legal abortions are safe and essential to female health care.
Rightly compared to whites that didn't consider blacks people, and Nazis that didn't consider Jews to be people, persons that advocate for abortion select arbitrary points when we should consider the foetus alive. Most settle on the point of viability. Shockingly, neither the New York nor Virginia Abortion Bill offers protection even to viable babies!
This is so uniquely evil it should be embarrassing! But instead pro-abort Governors and politicians have been photographed grinning and full of pride at the passing of these laws which no doubt will preclude the shedding of most innocent blood; which at another time could have been their own!
Whether via dismemberment, sucking a small baby through a thick tube, or a pill to stop a beating foetal heart, an abortive process interrupts the developmental process of a genetically unique human being that ends at natural death. This cannot be ignored! This is murder. He or she is alive! And life must be respected!
A human right?
Persons have also been repeating again and again that abortion is a human right? It certainly isn't listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the right to life however is clearly stated. But more than citing a well-intended document, killing a defenceless human being cannot be a human right. It just doesn't make sense.
Coupled with that, a human right must be just. Can the killing of an innocent human being be just? No. Even in the case of rape, is it just to give a baby that has done no wrong, the death penalty when rapists in these secularist states cannot even be considered for the death penalty?
That cannot be just. We need to be harder on rapists, softer on babies and our mothers, especially those in crisis situations need emotional and psychological support. A human right must also be humane. A second trimester baby may be killed via dilatation and curettage i.e. scraped out, or via induction abortion.
In an induction abortion the baby is chemically burnt alive using salt water, urea or potassium chloride injected into the amniotic sac. In the third trimester an induction abortion may be used as well but since the baby is so large the procedure most likely to end the baby's life is dilatation and extraction.
This is foetal dismemberment at a stage when the baby most certainly feels everything! Here the abortionist must be careful to break off both arms, both legs, crush the skull and gather all internal organs in order to prevent serious infection later on. Set your standards very low, this is still incredibly inhumane. Abortion is wrong, unjust and inhumane.
Is abortion healthy?
Pro-abortion activists have trumpeted that abortion is essential to women’s health care. No matter how much research demonstrates the negative physical and psychological impact on women, few media houses ever share these undesirable facts.
Facts like those found in the Southern Medical Journal of August 2002 which reviewed the medical records of 56,741 California Medicaid women. The researchers found that women who had abortions were 160% more likely than delivering women to be hospitalized for psychiatric treatment in the first 90 days following abortion or delivery. Psychiatric treatment rates remained significantly higher for at least another four years.
In a research paper titled “Suicide After Pregnancy In Finland” published in the British Medical Journal, compared to pregnant women who gave birth, pregnant women who aborted were six to seven times more likely to commit suicide.
Research has also shown that an early full term birth can reduce a woman’s risk of breast cancer, but that induced abortion of a first pregnancy carries a 30 to 50 percent increased risk of breast cancer. There are links with increased substance abuse, physical abuse of subsequent children, the negative impact on the family when a mother aborts, and the list goes on and on.
But even without the fancy research, we always knew that a procedure that kills unborn women cannot be healthy for women.
It seems the entire world is caught up in regurgitating half or non-truths. Let’s be diligent in examining the deceptive slogans that bombard us daily. It may sound catchy and emotive but that doesn’t make it true. As believers our role is to impact the world for the Kingdom of God, not assimilate the world culture. Let’s expose the lies and fight valiantly for life!
