Arsenal had a tricky away trip to Leyton Orient. The gunners after a tough European game rested many players and were lucky to not be beaten after Orient scored a late equaliser and could have won the match. Orient have now won themselves a money spinning return match at the Emirates and a potential quarter final awaits against Manchester United if they can progress.
Chelsea were the big surprise of the weekend going out of the cup at the hands of Everton. The match was a stalemate and went into penalties where American Tim Howard was the star saving brilliantly to see Everton progress to the quarter finals.
In other fixtures on the weekend Birmingham were too strong for Sheffield Wednesday with a 3-0 win whilst Stoke also won by the same score line against Brighton. Manchester City also played well as they were too strong for Notts County whilst Bolton overcame Fulham in an all premiership tie.
The premiership did have 2 games played this week as West Brom hosted Wolves in a relegation 6 point derby. Both teams were fighting and the game ended 1-1 not before a stunning strike from Wolves O'Hara opened the scoring. Both teams are still entrenched in the bottom part of the table and need points soon as the season comes closer to an end. Newcastle beat Birmingham in the midlands 2-0 in an entertaining match. Birmingham was not its usual self as they struggled to muster up anything going forward. The win for Newcastle ensures they stay in the top half of the table.
