I am up for a challenge: Cairns Ironman Triathlon (Asia Pacific Championship) involves a 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike and 42.2km Run. That is a big day of 226km and I want to raise $2260 for my friends at Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).

For over 75 years MAF has been flying light aircraft over jungles, mountains, swamps and deserts to bring medical care, emergency relief, long-term development and Christian hope to thousands of isolated communities around the world.
I have had friends working with MAF in the mountains of PNG, the Indigenous communities around Arnhem Land and plane maintenance at their North Queensland base of Mareeba. For example, Max flew for many years in the PNG highlands helping to perform MEDIVACs and supporting the local Communities and Churches.
These isolated communities might take days to reach on foot through the mountains but with MAF’s planes Max could reach them in hours. Noel Carpenter is flying for life in Arnhem Land reaching the many remote Indigenous communities. And Darren serves out of Mareeba helping keep the MAF planes safe and flying. Each of these amazing people has answered the challenge to try and make a difference to these remote communities.
The Mareeba base is the critical part of this whole operation. They keep these planes flying and service the entire MAF operation around Australia and Asia. With their current Mareeba lease not being renewed a generous donor has gifted land at the end of the runway. However, they need $850,000 for a new heavy maintenance hangar. Through my Cairns Ironman Triathlon, I want to raise awareness and funds for the amazing work MAF do. All donations go directly to MAF. Are you up for the challenge to help support MAF too?
