Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has confirmed that airport officials will not be implementing any carry-on baggage ban "at this time."
Reports received by counter-terrorism officials revealed that al Qaeda might be planning attacks on major airlines in Europe right before Christmas. This prompted the Transportation Security Administration to consider banning carry-on bags at the airports.
However, in CNN's "The Lead," Secretary Johnson said that there will be no such ban "at this time," even as their terrorism concerns continue to focus on aviation security.
He urged people to continue traveling and enjoy the Christmas holidays.
"I think people should continue to travel and have a happy and safe holiday, but we continue to be vigilant and continue to evaluate whether more is necessary, based on the latest threat streams," he said.
Travelers and industry experts believe that the possible ban would have several negative effects, including a decrease in airline ticket sales.
