Australian television drama series Wentworth season 5 is all set to bring new characters to replace Bea Smith in the show when it premieres in 2017. The upcoming installment will be comprised of 12 episodes.
The fourth season of the show ended with the death of the top dog in the prison which was a total shock to fans. This gave rise to a lot of speculation as to who will replace Bea in the next season.
"The Freak" Joan Ferguson stabbed Bea with a screwdriver where the latter lost a lot of blood. That episode also showed Bea hallucinating about her dead child.
Though fans were still holding onto a thread of hope that the leading lady survived the attack, Jo Porter, executive producer of the show made it clear that Bea played by Danielle Cormack was exiting the series. This gave rise to a sling of new contenders capable of taking the place of Bea.
Fans speculated Joan will take up her position as the top dog next season. In the last episode, she stabbed Bea openly which may bring her back to the prison. Another contender according to the fans is Franky Doyle who's out on parole but might be back to take on the Freak.
But according to FX News Call, the position of the top dog will be filled by new inmates in season 5. It also suggested that the new season will see more transgender inmates.
According to Cormack who is going easy on her exit, said her character is feeling weary and tired and had time to think about her future which is without parole.
Foxtel is expected to air season 5 of the show on April or May 2017.
