Guy Sebastian and Paulini, former Australian Idol Contenders will headline a welcome celebration in Darling Harbour as both the World Youth Day Cross and Icon are coming onto Australian shores on the 1st July 2007.
It is expected that thousands will attend the event where both singers will perform the World Youth Day 2008 anthem, which is called "Receive The Power" for the first time.
The World Youth Day Cross and Icon was given to the young people of the world by Pope John Paul II. Since 1983 the Cross, joined by the Icon in 2003, have travelled throughout the World and have been seen by millions of young people. Heralded as the 'Olympic torch' of World Youth Day, the 3.8m high, 40 kilogram Cross and Icon have travelled throughout the world.
The Cross and Icon will spend a year travelling around Australia prior to the World Youth Day celebrations culminating in the final event on July 20 where 600,000 people are expected to join Pope Benedict XVI for a Mass at Randwick Racecourse.
The Catholic Church's World Youth Day week will be held in Sydney from July 15-20, 2008.
