Chinese smartphone producer Xiaomi has launched its first laptop device which is set to compete in a market flooded with premium devices with big brands like Apple and Lenovo.
The laptop, named 'Mi Notebook Air', works on Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system at a cost of 4,999 yuan (approximately $749) for a 13.3-inch display model. The device will be available in two variants: 13.3 inch and 12.5 inch with full HD displays.
The Mi Notebook Air will be packed with highly competitve specs including a weight of less than 1.5 kg, an exact resemblance in every comparison with the Apple's MacBook Air, though 13 percent thinner at 14.8mm, and ultra thin bezel.
It will have an almost 11 percent smaller body than a 13.3 inch MacBook Air. The 12.5 inch variant comes with Intel Core M3 along with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage.
A trimmed down version for office use has also been offered at 3,499 yuan. The device is available at a discounted price in comparison to many similar specifications models offered by top brands including Dell, Apple, Lenovo, and HP.
The 'Mi Notebook Air' is the Beijing-based firm's newest effort to go ahead with its strategy of launching top- specifications devices at such a low price.
In Beijing, during the product launch, Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun said, "Xiaomi will carry on to launch budget gadgets with the key mechanism in the same league just like those on premium devices".
Xiaomi also rolled out a new smartphone under its budget phone flagship RedMi. The RedMi Pro is powered by MediaTeK's processor Helio X25, which will be on sale between 1,499 and 1,999 yuan depending on its specs.
In China, the Xiaomi laptop is set for release on August 2. The company has yet to announce the device's availability for other regions.
