48 Hours Cooling-Off Period for Late Term Abortions
On the 18th October 2005 the Age has reported that the Bracks government in Victoria within months is expected to announce a mandatory 48 hours cooling off period for women who want later term abortion for reasons other than abnormality where they must see a counsellor before proceeding in the wake of a surge of later abortion (All other abortions) which increase from 18,668 to 19,590 (cited by Consultative Council of Obstetric and Paediatric Morality and Morbidity and Department of Human Servic.

New figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have shown that more people in the country are marrying but not in civil marriages. The figures also show that more people are living together before tying the knot.

Church Intensifying Opposition to Abortion
On the 3rd October 2005 the Age has reported that the Catholic is encouraging believers to become mentors for women who are considering a termination as it is intensifying its opposition to abortion and the morning after pill. Centacare the social arm for the Catholic Church is calling on: “Catholics to take steps to end the ‘tragedy’ of abortion rather than simply telling women that termination are wrong.”

Church Condemns Bali Bombing
On the 3rd October 2005 the Age has reported that religious leaders have condemned the Bali bombing where three bombs exploded on Saturday evening; two at outdoor cafes at Jimbaran Beach and one at a restaurant in Kuta Square. The current toll stands at 22 dead and 105 injured where two Australians are dead.

Three Years for Church Arsonist
On the 27th September 2005 the Age has reported that Novak Majstorovic is sentenced to three years in a youth training centre in Victoria. Novak Majstorovic has pleaded guilty to arson and burglary of the Ascot Vale Uniting Church in Moonee Ponds on August 29th 2004. Earlier this month Novak Majstorovic apologise.

School of Christian Studies Annual Conference
On the 25th September 2005 the Sydneyanglicans.net has reported that the School of Christian Studies conference is being held from the 28th September to the 1st October at Macquarie University which is addressing the issue of ‘Thinking God at Work’. Kara Martin the director for the conference said: “SOCS exists to educate and encourage Christians in their everyday lives, including work.”

Call for Politicians to Address Marriage Education
On the 25th September 2005 the CathNews reported that the Marriage and Relationship Educator’s Association of Australia National Conference (MARENC) held over the weekends (23rd September to 25th September) in Sydney co-sponsored by the Catholic Society for Marriage Education has stated that federal funding for Family Relationship Centres should be directed at the prevention of marital break up since it is better than curing it.
