With the involvement of 135 churches in Canberra, the ‘Jesus All About Life’ (JAAL) media campaign will be blitzed across all traditional communication mediums in March 2006 to promote: ‘Jesus as being about life.’
Based on extensive research which the Bible Society of NSW undertook, the JAAL media campaign has tailored its message to three distinct audiences who are: young people, families with young children and the baby boomer generation.
Karl Faase the campaign co-director explained the message content to the different audiences saying: “The ad directed at young people challenges them to find out what Jesus says about life. Our research showed that young families often look for guidance on what values to give their children, so we have used that approach for the families ad while the baby boomer ad looks at older people who look back in their lives and wonder what else there is to live for?”
The plan for the Canberra launch was discussed at Belconnen Baptist Church in Canberra on the 5th February 2006 with over 250 people attending.
Martin Johnson the campaign co-director described the seminar atmosphere as ‘exciting’ and gave details of what some churches are planning to do such as: “Running community fun-days, holding barbeques or running stalls at the Canberra Show (commencing from the 24th February to the 26th February 2006) and local shopping centres.”
Mr. Johnson said the media campaign is aimed at: “Raising the awareness of Jesus and His message but it is up to Christians and local churches to elaborate on it by talking about it and giving away response materials produced by the Bible Society NSW.”
The interest garnered by this campaign with so many churches signing up is attributed to, as Brent Budarick a seminar leader puts it: “Churches of all denominations working under the one banner to send a message of Jesus to the community.”
Along with the media campaign the Canberra Committee is setting up its own call centre operating from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturday. Mr. Johnson described the sophistication and commitment of the Canberra Call Centre saying: “There have the latest in ‘voice over IP’ technology and are conducting training sessions over several weeks to ensure people can talk to a trained operator.”
Bible Society NSW a proud major sponsor of the JAAL campaign hopes to take it to every capital city and major regional centre in Australia. Daniel Willis the CEO of Bible Society NSW stated: “We’re overwhelmed at the response of the churches in Canberra and surrounding area. Bible Society NSW is committed to being the servant of the church and we’re delighted that this project has been so well accepted and adopted by the churches of Canberra and beyond.”
Organisers are attempting to have a prayer mantle over the campaign region (ACT and environs) during the period of the Campaign and are asking for those who would wish to be part of the prayer cover team to contact the Prayer Coordinator Kath McQuarrie on (quarriemac@homemail.com.au) for further information as to how you can support their efforts in prayer. You do not have to live in the ACT to be part of the team.
