NOW was officially launched on June 27 in Parliament House, Canberra, by the Shadow Minister for Families, Housing and Human Services, Hon Kevin Andrews MP.
Speaking at the Australian launch, Mr Andrews said: "National Others Week grows out of the Global Care motto, 'mates helping mates', and during this very special week, beginning on the first Sunday in November, I want to encourage people all over Australia to look beyond their own four walls and to be a 'mate' to someone else".
National Others Week also featured at a NSW Rotary Dinner in Bomaderry on August 5, held to raise funds for Chaplaincy Program Red Frogs.
In the words of Red Frogs founder Andy Gourley: "Doing something is always better than doing nothing".
Andy encouraged everyone all over Australia to get behind National Others Week and to reach out to others in their local community.
Global Care's National Director, Peter Pilt, said last year's National Others Week had surpassed all expectation, with groups and individuals from the UK, NZ, Chile and the Pacific Islands participating.
"Kindness is the manifestation of goodness within humanity. Kindness has an immense power to bring out the good in the character of others.
"It doesn't matter whether your act of kindness is large or small, personal or corporate – as long as it is from the heart, and helps someone else," he said.
This year Global Care will work with local councils, schools, service clubs and other community and corporate groups to spread the message of National Others Week in every possible way - because as the NOW motto says, "Life is a team sport!"
