Responding to the statement made by John Howard, the Prime Minister of Australia, who asked Australians to pray for rain, Reverend Marsh told Christian Today Australia that he was 'excited' about the statement, but he would be 'even more excited' if John Howard and Kevin Rudd, the Leader of the Opposition, would pray together for rain in the Great Hall in the Federal Parliament.
The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) supported the Prime Minister calls for rain and through its spokeswoman, told Christian Today Australia that she hoped that Australians could grasp the 'seriousness' of the circumstances and respond in kind.
"Many Christians have been praying for rain for quite a long period of time and we would urge them to continue to do so," the ACL spokeswoman said. "It's good to see the Prime Minister encouraging the whole community to pray for rain and we hope people throughout Australia will grasp the seriousness of the situation and respond to this challenge."
In the meantime, the ACL called for both the government and the supporting agency to do as much as they could to 'reduce the impact of the drought and alleviate the plight of those most affected."
Recently the Prime Minister had called for the nation to pray for more rain as the impact of the drought began to worsen over the past few months.
