The team went into the event with high hopes, just a few points off the pointy end of the championship.
The week leading up to the event has seen the launch of the team's new supporters club, The Impact Club, and an improvement in the condition of driver Andrew 'Fishtail' Fisher's chronic back condition.
The Jesus Ute was adorned with new livery for the Perth event, in support of International Aid Agency Compassion's 'I Believe' campaign. The campaign, "I Believe…it shouldn't end at the beginning…" raises awareness and money for the 22,000 children who die every day in Third World Countries from preventable illnesses including influenza and diarrhoea.
'Fishtail' also hosted the franchisees and guests of local Gloria Jean's Coffees, who were blown away by the sights and sounds of V8 Ute Racing.
On the track however, things didn't go entirely to plan.
Race One saw Fisher line up at sixth on the grid and while he slipped to 9th early on, clawed back to eighth, despite an electrical fault in the engine management system.
Race Two was more challenging. The Reverse Grid saw Fishtail starting in 15th, but he lost a position early on, and one more in each consecutive lap!
"The car had a damaged spark plug which affected the performance," says Fishtail. "It just didn't have the pull I needed and something was obviously wrong."
But Fisher hung in there, until Nandi Kiss spun out in front of the Jesus Ute, leaving Fishtail with nowhere to go. He slammed into the front of Kiss' car and took to the grass, managing to limp home in 24th.
The team worked hard to have the car race-ready for the afternoons Race Three.
Fishtail stared from 16th, with a lot of work to do to claw back to the frontrunners.
Congestion in the back of the pack meant Andrew came into contact with Warrren Millett, pushing the Jesus Ute's radiator and power steering back onto the engine, which drained the power steering fluid and caused the drive belt to slip.
Fishtail was forced to park the Jesus Ute for his first, and hopefully last, DNF of 2011.
"It's a disappointing result," says Fishtail. "We were back in Fifth place in the championship after Race One, but have slipped down to 9th on the ladder now.
"We have already set our sights on Darwin in June, where we will work hard toward a solid turnaround."
