Australian Missionary News IPTV anchorman Mark Tronson asked Tom Slockee about his formative years in ministry. Tom Slockee explained that his 'country' was the New South Wales south coast where he developed an Anglican Aboriginal Ministry and where he was eventually ordained. He was also an elected deputy mayor of the Eurobodalla Shire for some years.
The Bishop of Darwin Bob Thompson called him as an experienced Anglican Aboriginal Minister to further develop an Indigenous ministry in the Northern Territory in and around Darwin.
Tom Slockee said that his first assignment was to mentor Anglican indigenous leaders in remote 'country' and offer leadership training. His travels to these remote locations have shown that the indigenous leaders have developed their own style of worship and they are yearning for more leadership training within the Christian community.
These remote communities are self sufficient in many areas of Christian life and leadership within the Anglican community.
Another area of ministry which falls into his orbit of responsibility is that of Urban Aboriginal Churches and one that is his to develop in this area is at Palmerston. The Urban Mission includes Aboriginal communities within the city of Darwin and many young Aboriginal make their ways to the city as soon as they are able.
The very same issues that face young white Australians from rural areas can be multiplied many times over with young indigenous people.
Finally, Tom Slockee is responsible for the remote settlements and church development in those areas. The intervention has made some progress. He takes visitors (International and White Australian) to some of these remote settlements to illustrate the situation and for them to witness the passion his people have for the Lord Jesus Christ.
