According to church custom there has to be a clear two thirds majority vote for a clear election conclusion.
The position was left vacant for a year after the resignation of the former Archbishop Dr Ian George.
Bishop Driver, a former newspaper journalist had worked as a reporter and a sub-editor in Auckland and NSW. He was ordained in Bathurst in 1977. Bishop Driver had been a Bishop of Gippsland since December 2001 and had also served in the Anglican Dioceses of Canberra and Goulburn, Grafton and Bathurst.
It is still unclear when Bishop Driver will begin his new position as archbishop of Adelaide.
