It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We are here again, friends… Once again we are in the Christmas season. For many since the offset of the pandemic, this time of the year just doesn’t feel as it used to because of whatever reason. It could be the loss of a loved one or the lack of employment. For whatever is your reason for Christmas not feeling as normal as it normally does, my prayer is that you’ll find refuge in knowing that as cliche as it sounds, it does get better.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ (Romans chapter 8 verse 28, King James Version)
You know, we have an habit whenever someone says the feel a particular way, in a moment or because of a situation we are quick to respond, ‘I understand’ I know it’s human nature but sometimes we really don’t know, we might have a similar experience of the situation but we don't really know what people go through on a daily basis because not everyone will be open about their struggles.
So, what to do in this Christmas season? My answer is simple; just be kind!
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
(Ephesians chapter 4 verse 32, KJv).
Here a some things you could do for someone this holiday season as we celebrate the birth of Christ and the season of giving:
(1) Check on someone you care about, let us take this from the handle of living together; you might be in the same house everyday and you think that is enough to say, a person is doing fine. I hate to tell you my friend, but these people could be wearing a mask that you have no idea about pretending that it’s all good; go sit with them and give them a listening ear.
(2) Send a note to someone you have heard from in a while. Let us talk about friendships for a minute. It is a two way street like any other relationship, send them a note to check in, find out how they are via a text or something; it can mean a lot more than you’ll know Be a kind friend, in the instance of you not hearing from them in years and they just stop talking to you for no reason, then maybe a season change but you will never know, so try reaching out and see what happen. I’m trying to be friendly here. We know things aren't always what we think they are. Just be different.
(3) Be a cheerleader. You may be that one person that someone needs a good word from. Be that one light to someone who feels they are about to throw in the towel. Everyone around might be negative, be a shoulder to lean on; spread love not hate! Remember you are salt and light of the earth;
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(St. Matthew 5 verses 13-16, KJv)
