Last Thursday, Angelina Jolie fought back tears as she stood at Porter House New York to present the family of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner and a WWII prisoner of war survivor, with a special honour, the New York Post reported.
Jolie, the director of 'Unbroken', based on Zamperini's incredible story, presented his family with a certificate "honoring the life, accomplishments and legacy of [Zamperini] and expressing condolences on his passing." Among those present during the event was Louis' son Luke Zamperini.
The certificate of honour was from a resolution passed by the US Senate on Wednesday. Brian Roberts, CEO of Comcast, met with President Obama the previous day before bringing the certificate to New York himself.
As she honoured Louis Zamperini, Jolie expressed gratitude that she was given the chance to tell his story. The event was attended by the cast of Unbroken, M. Night Shyamalan, Barbara Walters, and Ron Myer and Donna Langley of Universal Studios.
