Spurs needed to win against arch enemies Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday to continue their pursuit of Champions league football. And, for Spurs, to continue their impressive turnaround of form.
However, it was Arsenal. Arsenal, who have been showing signs of form who rose to the occasion to move into the top half of the table with a surprisingly impressive 2-1 win.
Spurs looked out of sorts after going ahead. Unfortunately with Son injured early, they didn’t recover. The Gunners pulled level just before the break before sealing a 64th minute penalty to ensure all 3 points and bragging rights stayed in north London.
Manchester United v. West Ham
Manchester United kept their slim title hopes alive with a tough 1-0 win at home to the impressive West Ham. An own goal after half time ensured United, who are 14 points behind City with a game in hand, took back 2nd position.
West Ham have now moved to 5th but do have a game in hand over nearest rivals Chelsea for the ever-elusive Champions league positions.
Sunday Matches
Sundays other matches saw Leicester smash 5 past Sheffield United after Sheffield parted company with 5-year manager Wilder in the week. A big win for Leicester as they establish themselves in 3rd position whilst United look relegated.
In the early Sunday kick off Southampton hosted Brighton in the Southwestern Derby where Brighton came away with the honours- winning 2-1.
Rest of the Round
The remaining futures of the round saw Aston Villa blow a 1-0 lead with seconds to play away at Newcastle - as the match finished 1-1. Burnley enjoyed a rare away win at Goodison over Everton whilst Man City dispatched Fulham with 3 second half goals.
Palace won 1-0 at home to West Brom whilst Leeds & Chelsea played out a very entertaining scoreless draw.
