People have gotten so used to Arya Stark looking like a lost boy wearing old rags in the past few seasons of Game of Thrones, that it will be quite a surprise to see her wear a clean dress in GoT season 5.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed the latest costume design for Arya, featuring a long plain dress replete with a different hairstyle for the actress that would help her blend in the free city of Braavos.
"I love Arya's new look," actress Maisie Williams told EW. "It's very neutral, very plain, but clean! I have clean hair that actually moves."
The change was so drastic that nobody recognised her on set. "I had my hair braided up to these big buns and bits of jewelry and a jumper thing with a long skirt, and I came onto the set and nobody recognised me," said Williams.
Costumer designer Michele Clapton explained that her goal with the new outfit was to transform Arya from a girl in hiding into a young woman bravely facing Braavos.
"For so long she had to look like a boy. Even when the disguise was no longer necessary, it made no sense to change it because she was on the road," said Clapton.
