On the ACL website, Mr Wallace noted 2007 was a successful year in which Australians saw the prominence of the Christian constituency on both the Federal and State level. Now was not the time to be complacent, he said, but rather it was the time to build on the success.
"The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) enters this year on the back of a very busy and successful year in 2007 in which we saw the prominence of the Christian constituency increased significantly in both the political and public spheres," he said.
"However this is not something we want to be complacent about and we are very much aware of the need to build on that success."
Among the successes the lobby group had attained last year, Mr Wallace was especially happy about the staging of the 'Make-It-Count' event, which he described as a 'landmark' event. Explaining it, he said it was a webcast of the leaders from the two major political parties making a speech which was broadcasted to around 100,000 Christians at 706 venues.
He said the 'high-profile' event demonstrated the significant political role Christians played and confirmed the importance of their vote.
In addition to the webcast, there were other activities staged by the Christian lobby group that included giving Christians a direct voice to the political candidates in the Meet Your Candidate Forum and providing them with a questionnaire on the politicians' stance on issues which mattered to them.
A new political era was ushered in with the election of a new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, said Mr Wallace and the lobby group would hold him accountable to the commitment he made during the Federal Election.
Furthermore, the Christian lobby group is preparing for two elections in this upcoming year where the first is in the A.C.T. in October 2008 and the next Federal Election in 2010. But, the lobby group will continue to work hard to raise the profile of the Christian constituency with governments and the community in order to engender an increasingly moral, just and caring society, he said.
