Big Night Tonight
Tonight, 7pm at Etihad Stadium, the Melbourne Renegades take on the Perth Scorchers. The new T/20 format sees city rivalry at its best. But for the second Melbourne team, the Renegades, now is the time to fire up. The Renegades need a win over the Perth Scorchers to move up the ladder. They have played one game and lost to the Adelaide Strikers. They need a win to secure their position in Melbourne market. To do that, coach Simon Helmot will be pushing his bowlers Tait and Nannes to get results.
Indoor Cricket?
The draw-card for the Renegades game will be playing at Etihad Stadium. Etihad has a retractable roof which will make it "indoor cricket." The roof is almost 50m from the playing surface, so players will be trying hard to hit the roof and earn six runs (that's right, it is part of the rules). The "backyard cricket" rules where you can get six and out have been ignored.
Who is the winner?
Whatever the result, this is a first for cricket. The showy new T/20 format, along with the Etihad roof shut will draw in the Melbourne fans. It's worth a look. Gates open at 5.30pm.
