There are numerous rumours flying around social media that a "blip in gravity" will leave everyone weightless. Do not be carried away with this since it is just exaggeration.
"It is the Nigerian-prince email of the astrophysics world", which is an unrelenting story that an unusual planetary alignment that involves Pluto, Earth and Jupiter will cause a "momentary fluctuation of gravity" on our planet, leaving all weightless and capable of a momentarily float in the air, or at least land little by little if someone tries to dunk a ball within that perfect moment.
The newest version of this rumour says that this historic event should have happened last Sunday morning at 9:00 am (Pacific Time). But many have observed that a similar rumour circulated about a year ago, and then never occurred.
The idea that people will momentarily be "granted a reprieve from the mysterious force" is a fraud that has been passed down year after year.
To clarify, there is no planetary alignment or a spontaneous line involving every rock in the "asteroid belt" has the ability to "turn off" gravity on Earth. The planets, particularly the big ones like Jupiter and Neptune are just too distant.
In addition, the inclusion of the planet Pluto in this hoax, should give idea that it holds no truth. Pluto was being demoted to being only a dwarf planet some few years back as it was way too small and too far to have any obvious impact to the Earth.
The notion that Pluto and Jupiter conspire to stop gravity on Earth was initially a joke that originated over 40 years ago to an "April Fool's Day prank" credited to Patrick Moore, a former British astronomer.
