After its pastor was arrested on charges of an aggravated assault against his own daughter, a church in Kansas issued an urgent call to prayer.
A report on KSNT elaborates that the arrest report from the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office stated that Greg Varney, the pastor in question, assaulted his daughter using a vehicle.
According to the testimony of a man who attends Varney's church, the pastor of Light of the World Christian Center was arrested after he smashed his vehicle into another car as he was leaving. The man also added that this behaviour was uncharacteristic of their beloved pastor. The 61-year-old was detained last week.
However, aside from this, noone from the sheriff's office elaborated on the specific details of the crime that the pastor was accused of. The changes in the pastor's behaviour of late have been attributed to the toxins released in his body due to kidney failure.
Charisma News reports that a church statement reveals, "In the last few years, Pastor Greg has had health concerns resulting in kidney failure. He took a sabbatical from the church to focus on his health, and he is receiving dialysis. During treatment, however, Pastor Greg's family began to notice unexplained cognitive and behavioral changes they believe were caused by the toxins released in his body when his kidneys were not functioning. Pastor Greg and his family have been working with multiple doctors to determine a solution to these issues, and they will continue to aggressively pursue the medical treatment he needs. We are grateful to the wonderful doctors in Topeka who have been treating Pastor Greg, and we ask for your prayers that they might find the cause of these cognitive and behavioral changes and a suitable treatment for Pastor Greg."
