Spurs travelled to Everton on Friday evening in a must win fixture at Goodison Park with the elusive Champions League places are up for grabs.
Currently there are 7 points between 3rd place Leicester city and 8th place Everton. All fighting for the top 4 to ensure they are among the elite next season in Europe.
Everton have a game in hand and needed the win as much as Spurs. However, Everton’s 2 goals were not enough. Spurs Harry Kane continued his goal scoring form with a brace as both teams left with a point.
Geordies v Relegation
The other end of the table is heating up with Fulham and West Brom. Both teams are in form and doing what they can to close the gap and chase down Newcastle United.
While West Ham are firmly in the Champions League race, Newcastle United are fighting for their Premier League lives and this made for a cracking fixture.
Newcastle came out early and scored twice before the break after West Ham went a man down for a second Yellow card. West Ham manager Moyes then made changes & it worked- pulling 1 goal back before in form Lingard scored from the spot in what looked like the start of an impressive comeback.
Newcastle’s Willock had other ideas- against the run of play scoring an unlikely header to give Newcastle a huge 3 points in their quest for survival.
Remaining Matches
With Europe mid week and Cup games up and down the country – the remaining premier league matches saw Wolves edge out Sheffield United 1-0 to condemn United to the Championship whilst Arsenal and Fulham played out a 1-1 draw. Norwich City also are promoted after winning this week in their respective league, the championship.
Cup drama this weekend as Manchester City were knocked out of the Semi Finals of the FA cup – losing to Chelsea. Ultimately now City cannot achieve the unprecedented Quadruple.
Leicester won the other semi-final which means Chelsea & Leicester will battle it out at Wembley in May in one of English footballs greatest of traditions.
