Chelsea have put 1 hand on the trophy with a 0-0 draw with cross town rivals Arsenal on Sunday. The Gunners had to win if they were any chance of toppling Chelsea but could not find the net to split the teams. Chelsea, who beat Manchester United last week 1-0, are now 1 game away from becoming champions for the first time since the early 2000's. The club is excited and they can almost not win another game and still finish at the summit of the league.
Manchester City regained momentum in the push for a Champions League place with a last minute winner in their 3-2 win at home to a rejuvenated Aston Villa at the Emirates. Villa pulled back 2 second half goals to level the match before a last minute corner helped Manchester City all but guarantee a Champions League birth.
Saturday's early kick off was an entertaining fixture at St Mary's as Southampton and Spurs battled it out as both clubs needed the 3 points in their hunt for Europe. The game was end to end and finished 2-2 which didn't really help either club, however both are still in the running with Liverpool for the all important 5th position. Saturday's midday kick off's saw some relegation fixtures at their best. Leicester continued their amazing run of form with their 4th straight win, defeating fellow strugglers and also newly promoted Burnley in Lancashire. The win for Leicester sees them out of the bottom 3 and still in the running for the great escape. Sunderland are the team Leicester has replaced in the relegation zone as they faced a tricky trip to Stoke City. They took the lead however the equalizer came from another remarkable strike by Charley Adam to give both teams a share of the spoils in the Midlands. QPR also got a point as they drew 0-0 with cross town rivals West Ham. The point might not be enough as there are only 4 games left to get the required points before the end of the campaign. Other Saturday fixtures saw West Brom and Liverpool play out a lacklustre goalless draw and Hull City also had a much needed win, winning 2-0 away from home at Crystal Palace in the nations capital. Swansea maintained their excellent season with a 3-2 away win at Newcastle to keep Newcastle not mathematically safe of the drop.
Sunday's last fixture saw Everton have a fanatic win over Manchester United, coming away 3-0 winners to cement their mid table standings. The defeat should not effect United's chances of Europe with 4 games remaining.
