
Manchester United went to Craven Cottage in a tough fixture against Fulham. History shows United struggle at the Cottage and this weekend was no different. Under Mark Hughes, Fulham looked good and had an energy about them that was similar to when under Hodgson. United went ahead twice however were pegged back on each occasion with a pulsating game ending 2-2.
Arsenal showed their title aspirations with a 6-0 demolishing of Blackpool. Blackpool who were coming off an impressive 4-0 win new this week would be very different and went in with a defensive mindset. The gunners were simply too good with Walcott scoring a hat trick in a very Arsenal like performance.
Newcastle United welcomed Aston Villa to St James Park in Newcastle's first home game back in the Premiership. Newcastle didn't disappoint with the weekends third 6-0 thrashing. Newcastle were simply too good with Andy Carroll scoring a hat trick and Captain Nolan scoring a brace. Barton was the other on the scoresheet with a thumping drive that was simply too strong for the Villa keeper.
Man City hosted Liverpool in the Monday night game. Liverpool came to the ground with high hopes however they were quickly squashed as Tevez scored a double and Barry sealed an impressive 3-0 win for the Blue half of Manchester. City will now more then ever believe their team has what it takes to compete as they start their 2010 season well with 4 points.
In other weekend matches Birmingham defeated Blackburn 2-1. Everton and Wolves shared the spoils in an entertaining 1 all draw at Goodison. Spurs enjoyed their first win of the campaign with a nervy 2-1 win away at Stoke. West Brom won their first game back in the Premiership with a hard fought 1-0 home win against Sunderland while Bolton surprised West Ham at Upton Park 3-1.
