A recent report says that Chinese police in the province of Henan has destroyed a protestant church's cross, and then builds a wall to prevent people from entering in time for Christmas.
According to a report by RFA.org, several hundred demolition workers, as well as government officials arrived at Nanle County Church last week, and dragged away two volunteers who were inside the church at that time.
Afterwards, the demolition team built a stone wall so no one can enter the church premises. The authorities then, came down from the roof and destroyed the cross.
"A lot of people came, including police and riot police, as well as plainclothes cops and officials from the county religious affairs bureau," pastor Zhao Junling told reporters in an interview. "They ripped down the cross that evening."
The incident was a surprise for members of the Nanle County Church as their congregation was one of the few sanctioned churches in China.
Meanwhile, the Anzhuang Church near Nanyang city will face worse problems - destruction, after its leaders were forced by the government to join the Three-Self Patriotic Movement.
In the report by RFA, more Christian church crosses are being targeted in the region, particularly that of the Zengshan Church.
"There are people on guard at the Zengshan Church right now because it's one of the last [to have its cross removed]," says a member of the church on Friday.
The Chinese government has recently been very strict when it comes to allowing non-Buddhists in holding their respective religious services. Authorities have also strengthened their steps in tracking down Christian missionaries who operate as school teachers, business owners, etc.
