A teenage girl, who was reported to be a devout Christian, took her own life in fear of rejection from her parents, after suspecting she may have been a lesbian.
Elizabeth Lowe, 14, hanged herself in a local park in Manchester, in the midst of her struggle to 'reconcile her feelings with her own deep faith'.
According to the report by Telegraph UK, 'Lizzie', as she was commonly known among her friends, confided with them about her sexuality and was afraid that her Christian parents would not approve of her being gay.
On September 10, the school girl sent a text message to her friend saying '..stay strong. I'm sorry.' The message alarmed her friend, who informed the victim's mother. Hilary, who is a chartered accountant, called the police, but unfortunately the girl's lifeless body was found at a local park in Manchester.
Some of Lizzie's friends said in interviews that she was finding it 'hard to connect with God as she thought she was lying to him'.
In the report, the victim is described as a top academic performer at Parrs Wood High School, where she has been a successful student, member of the Scouting movement, and a musician in a Christian orchestra.
Kevin Lowe, Lizzie's father and an engineer, said both he and Hilary never thought that their child was undergoing serious emotional distress caused by her sexuality.
"It wouldn't have come as much surprise. She was very much a tomboy. In fact she was more of a boy than some of the boys were, so it would have been no surprise at all. We would have been very supportive", says her father.
