Travelling to the U.S. to install a reverend to be a rector in one of the largest Episcopal Church, Dr. Carey said the consecration of an openly-gay bishop had hindered the Anglican mission in Muslim countries and caused grief to conservative congregants everywhere.
"It has created enormous tidal waves, shock waves around the world," Carey told the Houston Chronicle. "It has hindered missions in Muslim countries. It has distressed conservative congregations everywhere. There is no place in the Anglican Communion that has been impervious to the shock waves."
Meanwhile, in Canada, the Anglican bishop of the Eastern Newfoundland church is demanding all its members to declare its allegiance to either the church or a breakaway group led by the former bishop, Donald Harvey, who has spoken out against ordaining homosexual priests.
Bishop Harvey described the tone of the letter as devastating, since the clergies needed to renew their licence and vow again, reported the CBC news.
"The tone of it is devastating," he said, "because it is indicating that the clergy need to … have their licences renewed, which they will do by renewing their vows."
