Donald Trump, the controversial Republican Party presidential candidate has signed a pledge from Enough Is Enough, the anti-porn group while saying that he will "fight the proliferation of pornography", if elected.
The "Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge" by Enough Is Enough, aims to protect children from online exploitation, through the implementation of "Internet obscenity laws."
The group labelled viewing of pornography a "growing public health issue" that is negatively impacting young minds.
The pledge had been sent to each Presidential candidate, calling upon them to pledge to protect the American children.
"The Pledge's goals include a commitment to appoint an Attorney General, who will make the vigorous prosecution of the federal obscenity, child pornography, sexual predation, child trafficking laws and the Children's Internet Protection Act a top priority," reads the Press Release by EIE.
According to the group, Trump has promised to give "serious consideration to appointing a Presidential Commission to examine the harmful public health impact of Internet pornography on youth, families and the American culture."
"Governments can't parent and parents can't enforce the law. Parents alone cannot prevent Internet crimes against their children," said Mrs. Hughes, Donna Rice Hughes, CEO & President of Enough Is Enough.
"Mr. Trump's leadership and commitment to uphold the rule of law is demonstrated by his signing of the Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge."
The Utah legislature passed a resolution last spring terming pornography a "public health crisis".
"It is groundbreaking to have corporate and political leaders reexamining the controversial topic of pornography and concluding that the research substantiates a public health approach," noted Dr. Jill Manning, an EIE Board member, researcher and mental health practitioner.
Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has not signed the pledge yet but according to the group, does support their cause.
"I remain optimistic that Secretary Clinton will reconsider signing this important pledge," Mrs. Hughes said.
