Downton Abbey, the English period drama exploring the lives and complexities behind the upstairs/downstairs customs of the era returns to TV this week for its 5th seasons premiere.
What's in store for fans of the series?
Lady Mary, who is played masterfully by Michelle Dockery, has mostly gotten over the loss of her late husband and will now have to choose between which of her two handsome suitors she should marry next.
Lady Edith Crawley, played by Laura Carmichael weathered a pregnancy drama in the last season and is still secretly dealing with the fruits of her one night with her former lover who vanished. While she may have succeeded in getting her child placed with a family, Edith is now trying to find ways to still be a part of her daughter's life; which of course upsets the adoptive mother.
For the downstairs residents, it seems that the murder mystery, involving Anna, her valet husband and a vicious attacker who accosted Anna is not over. But according to Joanne Froggatt, who plays Lady Mary's maid, it's the suspense between these two couples that is keeping the marriage going.
Catch the season 5 premiere of the hit drama on January 4, 2015 on PBS.
