Mrs. Nile will hold the number two spot on the Christian Democratic Party federal ticket for the Senate – after candidate, Pastor Paul Green.
Recently, Pastor Green was reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as comparing the control of Muslim immigration to the fight on bird flu.
"If there was bird flu coming from a people's groups across the nation, would we not stop to assess the risk management of what it means to Australia and then assess the factors, and say, 'Is it safe to continue that or withhold it until it is dealt with?'" he said.
Pastor Green's remark was condemned by Reverend Dr. Jonathan Inkpin, the General Secretary of the NSW Ecumenical Council, who said the remark was offensive and risked undermining Christian values at their core.
"Likening Muslim immigrants to carriers of a virus is not only very offensive but it also risks undermining Christian values at their core. In responding to others, particularly those in need, Jesus did not ask 'are you of my race or religion?', but rather he taught that all people are our neighbours and fellow children of God," Reverend Inkpin told the Uniting Church NSW Insight magazine publication.
The CDP platform was also echoed by Pauline Hanson, infamous for making racist remarks during her political career, who called for a halt to Muslim immigration.
