Prior to being elected to the post of General Secretary, Rev A. Miller Milloy was the head the Europe-Middle East Region of UBS. He has been the UBS Acting General Secretary since January this year, following the departure of the former General Secretary, Neil Crosbie.
One of the remarkable achievements of Rev Milloy while he was Acting General Secretary was organising the UBS World Assembly in August. 300 delegates from 142 national Bible Societies gathered to celebrate the society's bicentenary and to determine its direction over the next few years. Rev Milloy’s excellent work has been highly appreciated by members of the Society, and this has been noted as one of the reasons leading to his appointment.
The Chair of the UBS Global Board, Sally Shoemaker Robinson, commented, "We are delighted to have been able to make this appointment. Miller made a great contribution to the work of UBS in leading the Europe-Middle East Region, and as UBS Acting General Secretary he has shown conclusively over the past 11 months that he has much more to offer at what is in many ways a decisive time for the movement."
Upon the appointment, Rev Milloy reflected, "As I begin to come to terms with all the demands of this new office…I ask for your patience, your understanding and your prayers. In return, I pledge you my fullest support."
Apart from Rev Milloy’s active involvement in UBS, he is also very experienced in church ministry. Rev Milloy, now 58-years-old, was an Adviser in Mission and Evangelism for the Church of Scotland before joining UBS. He was ordained in 1979 after completing his theological studies at Glasgow University, and until 1992 served in pastoral ministry.
