The 2019 Avalon Airshow returns to Geelong, Victoria from 1st to the 3rd of March with some of Australia’s most advanced defence assets.
It is acknowledged as the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and combines public flying displays as well as an exhibition for aviation, aerospace and defence personnel.
F/A 18A
One of Australia’s most powerful defence assets is the amazing F/A-18A Hornet which will again take pride of place at the Airshow. The Hornet is a multi-role fighter aircraft that provides air-to-air and air-to-ground service. It can reach speeds of Mach 1.8 or 2,200 kilometres an hour.
F – 35 JSF
Australia’s newest acquisition, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) will also be on display. The F–35’s distinctive feature is its ability to evade radar using stealth technology.
The three day airshow will also display other military and civilian aircraft. From the latest business jets to a huge drone display, the Avalon Airshow is a must see show.
On eagles wings
One of the most prized assets on display at the airshow, however, is not a plane nor a drone but a group of people. The Airforce Chaplains have built a reputation as a valued and vital part of the military, just as much as the aircraft. They provide pastoral care for the 1000’s of personnel and their families in the ADF. Their motto, “Facing the wind” points to the support they provide to people in tough times. A plane always takes off into the wind. This provides the metaphor that during tough times you must face the wind to take off and soar to new heights. And Chaplains provide the support to help people face the wind.
If you attend the Avalon Airshow spend some time admiring the military aircraft but don’t forget to take the time to visit the ADF Chaplain’s stand and encourage these great men and women that serve behind the scenes.
