A representative of United Nations said that the fight against Ebola could be over by the end of 2015. However, it will be a difficult fight since about 8,000 people have died due to this life-threatening disease.
UN Mission head for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) Anthony Banbury told press that they have a long way to go against Ebola. "We have not come anywhere close to ending the crisis. We've done a lot in 90 days in a very successful response but we have a long and difficult way to go."
"It's going to go on for not just weeks but some months more," Banbury added. "But I believe we will do it in 2015 and we're going to do it by working very closely not just with governments of the countries but the communities."
The Ebola outbreak started in a remote place southeast of Guinea and has hit six of West African countries. Figures estimate at least 20,000 people have been infected in the countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, leaving 8,000 people dead.
Since the outbreak hit, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has formed an Ebola Emergency Response since September in liaison with other countries.
