We might add, that everything that we undertake (all except for sin), is something we can enjoy for the Lord's pleasure. Such things are part of our faith experience as we live our lives in praise and thanking Him for each in every activity we find ourselves in.
Such tasks might be our everyday activities such as housekeeping, our regular employment, helping a child (even by putting a band-aid on their finger and kissing it better), or perhaps fixing someone's IT problem (there's a headache area), playing games or participating in sport; all these things, when done with an attitude that we can participate due to the Glory of God, are His delight.
Not everyone has the same abilities. Jubal, for example in Genesis, was given talents in music. We see today those children that have that same natural music ability and some turn professional with those skills – from symphony orchestra's at one end of the spectrum to rock bands at the other. God delights when such people with these God given gifts use those abilities with integrity to His glory.
After the flood, God told Noah to be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth …In these verses of Genesis 9: 1-3 God told Noah that everything that lives and moves is His provision for food, He gave everything.
In other words, it's time to start living.
What is the sort of living the Lord speaks of – consider what God has said – marry, have children, plant crops, eat your meals, excel in whatever you do.
It is good to rejoice by praying and singing hymns and joyful praises to the Lord; to read the Bible and belong a congregation so we can share your faith in Jesus; and to share of our abundance, by, for example by giving to charity.
But these things alone do not constitute God's pleasure in the way we live our ordinary lives. The Lord enjoys and delights when He watches us working and playing and resting and eating and loving and chatting and reading and whatever delights our hearts and minds. .
This is the key - the Lord delights in every little aspect of our lives. To be in His presence and know His favour is simply wonderful. I remember the 1981 movie, 'Chariots of Fire', about two British athletes (one a Christian and one a Jew) who compete in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. The character playing Eric Liddell, the Christian, said: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but I also believe He made me fast, and when I run I feel His pleasure."
It is written in the scriptures that, after Noah had 'got on with' all the undertakings the Lord required in his daily life, "The Lord was pleased with Noah" (Genesis 6 verse 8).
In delighting in His service, I enjoy my life in all those everyday undertakings I engage in; such as putting out the compost to the garden, watching a Who Done-It, writing an article, mentoring a young person or painting a window sill.
How splendid to know that the Lord delights with me in all these little things.
