Christian Today Australia (CTA) is an on-line non-denominational daily news sheet whose aim is to provide a Christian world view of daily news.
As a 'world first', CTA has been providing a daily sports news column since February this year after consulting with Well-Being Australia's Mark Tronson who is a CTA advisor.
One of the young sports writers for CTA is Jeremy Dover who was interviewed on the Australian Missionary News IPTV by anchorwoman Rosie Timmins.
Jeremy Dover told Rosie Timmins that he grew up around the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Ipswich where he did his high schooling. He had always played sport and loved it but it wasn't until his university years was he able to channel his love of sport.
His undergraduate degree was in psychology and his major with a First Honours was in Sports Science, a study of human movement, the physiology of exercise the body and his interest in the mental aspects associated with sport.
Jeremy Dover told Rosie Timmins that his role in writing sports was initiated when the Australian Missionary News IPTV's Mark Tronson contacted him, who he's known for many years, and he warmly accepted the voluntary position.
He explained that this was another way in which he might spread the good news of Jesus Christ. This was a new medium, he was excited that this was part of a 'world first' movement, that with Christian news on the internet so mainstream now, sports was the next obvious step.
Asked by Rosie Timmins as to his calling to ministry, in that he and his wife Ruth and son Issac serve as the minister of the Bannockburn Presbyterian Church (near Geelong in Victoria), Jeremy Dover said that he felt the Lord had led him to serve in ministry of this nature as he loves preaching Jesus, and is excited by all forms of chaplaincy as its bringing Ministry to the community.
As to insights from others to his ministry and what he might offer to other, he related a recent situation in his own life. He went through a period of reflection that all he needed was additional resources, a better vehicle, a better this and that, and realised that his essence was in Christ, not in what he might possess.
Jeremy Dover explained that being 'available' was the key ingredient in Christian service, he felt rebuked for his own thinking, and was provided a fresh expression of service in Christ by simply saying to the Lord, "I am yours to serve wherever and with whatever I am given and by faithful in to my uttermost in such endeavours." This he says, is the key he discovered.
