Jesus Racing's Andrew Fisher goes into the event at third place in the championship, just a handful of points from second-placed Jack Elsegood, but with David Seiders hot on his heels in fourth place.
All are fighting hard for a podium finish so the racing will be no holds barred.
"We really need to win a race to secure a spot in the top three," says Andrew. "We were fast on this track last year, so I know we can do it. The Homebush track is tight, but that shouldn't be a problem."
The Jesus Racing Team took the Ute for a test day at Wakefield Park early this week, which Andrew said gave it a great shakedown in readiness for the Sydney 500.
"The car was really fast," he says. "It was great to shake the cobwebs out, and to get my head into gear so I can start to focus on racing.
"I am looking forward to a strong performance next weekend," says Andrew. "I want to finish on the podium so I have to go hard and come out with a good result. That's what we're here for."
Andrew has had a busy couple of weeks in the lead-up to the Sydney 500. He's spoken at six schools from Narooma on the South Coast to Forrestville in Sydney's north (around 5000 teenagers) about the importance of making courageous decisions and thinking through consequences.
