Manchester City travelled to Chelsea knowing a win was crucial should they still want to have a say in the League. Chelsea also new only a win would do if they were to catch Arsenal and United. Both teams started brightly however it was Chelsea who were too strong coming out 2-0 winners. The win leaves Chelsea 9 points behind the leaders but also with a game in hand and a trip to Old Trafford later in the season.
Liverpool kept their faint European dream alive with a solid 2-0 win away at Sunderland. This was a fiery encounter with a dubious penalty given to the Merseyside's. In the end Liverpool were too strong and continued Sunderland's poor form of late.
Spurs are also in a league slump as they look to find European glory in the Champions League. Spurs hosted fierce neighbours West Ham and couldn't break the Hammers resolve. Both teams had chances near the end however had to settle for a point in which was a great result for the Hammers.
In other Premier League weekend fixtures, Aston Villa slumped to an embarrassing 1-0 loss at home to Wolves in their derby, Stoke were ramped, beating Newcastle 4-0 at home whilst Everton downed Fulham 2-1 at Goodison. Blackburn and Blackpool shared the spoils with a late Blackburn goal to draw 2-2 and Wigan had a much needed win, coming out 2-1 winners over Birmingham in a must win 6 pointer.
