The latest from the tech world is that a special preview of Android's upcoming OS update, the Android 7.0 Nougat, is to be made available to LG G5 users.
Previously, two other smart devices had the privilege of enjoying custom-built previews. These were the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia X Performance. And now, an LG device has made it to the ranks. While it does seem like excellent news, there are too many catches that dull the sparkle.
According to a report on Android Police, the Nougat preview is firstly available only to users in South Korea. Given that LG is a South Korean company, this seems like an acceptable barrier. But then, not all LG G5 users in South Korea will be allowed to revel in the Nougat experience. Only those G5 owners who use LG's U+ cellular network are eligible for the upgrade.
Yet there's one final catch. The preview of the Android 7.0 Nougat beta version is only available to 2000 users.
So then is the whole point of this selective preview? Android Authority reasons that the party that stands to benefit from this scheme is LG. The targeted release is supposedly not a part of Google's Android Beta Program. Instead, this new version of Android is rumored to be customized by LG, as it had done with Lollipop and Marshmallow. Therefore, this Nougat preview is intended to enable the upgraded users to share their feedback and to report issues and bugs in the OS.
LG can then go about fixing the errors, and at the time of the official release of the final software, it will ensure a smooth transition for LG device users. The beta preview was made available Tuesday.
