Imagine the chaos if you were to remove the rule book from a sport and allow the spectators or players to be the umpire. Without rules or a judge of the rules, I expect even the most tame and elegant of sports would turn to a blood bath and the winner would be the last person standing.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take the same imagination to think about what would happen if God and the Bible were removed from society, because we are living in a society that has done exactly that.
Effectively, the world has removed the rule book and the umpire and what is coming (if it’s not already here) is chaos. Although the Bible is much more than just a rule book, it is God’s Word with direction on how to think, how to speak and how to act. It teaches us how to love God and how to love others.
However, not only has the Bible been removed, tampered with, and trampled upon, but the divine creator of all things, the supreme judge, and the sustainer of everything has been rejected and replaced. God is no longer recognized as the one who makes the rules and upholds the rules.
Who makes the rules?
Because people have attempted to usurp God’s authority to make the rules, they have first dismissed His rules and then tried to develop their own. This isn’t a new strategy, because, in the same way, Adam and Eve dismissed God rules and became their own law makers, when they ate of the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden.
From this first sin, humanity has continued in a rebellious pattern against God and while many laws are being introduced and passed by politicians that promote such an anti-Bible and anti-God agenda, I believe they aren’t the only guilty party who is attempting to overturn God’s rules and make up their own. There is a combined effort of politicians, the media, education, and even the church to create a new set of moral rules.
Now please understand, I don’t believe every politician, journalist, teacher or church is against God, but there seems to be a general trend going that way. And what’s more, it’s frightening how quickly society is accelerating toward anything and everything that is anti-Bible and anti-God.
Examples:
The Bible teaches God designed marriage between one man and one woman… society has rejected this design and attempted to create its own view of marriage.
The Bible teaches God has created people (male and female) in His own image… society has rejected this design and supports people’s own efforts to redesign their bodies to be another gender.
The Bible teaches God has created people in His own image and we have no right to harm each other… society has embraced and even paid for the murder of unborn children and more recently unhealthy adults through assisted suicide or euthanasia.
The Bible teaches God has created people in His own image and therefore we are all equal (but with different roles)… society has alternatively elevated the status of men/women, black/white, and young/old to the effect one group is oppressed or devalued.
Society’s irrational thinking
While society believes it is developing as it comes out of an era which respected the Bible, a closer examination of the thought process reveals an irrational logic that causes confusion and inconsistency.
For example, in the news recently someone was welcomed and applauded when they attempted to change their God-given gender, but, rebuked for trying to change their God-given race with surgery that altered the person’s appearance to that of an Asian. Differentiating between transgenderism and transracialism just does not make sense.
Allowing men with the DNA of a male to compete in women’s sport does not make sense. It is proven every year (with a comparison between men and women’s sports) that men are stronger and faster than women, so if women aren’t allowed to take drugs to enhance their performance, why should men be allowed to compete against women as if it’s a level playing field?
Furthermore, the growing voice of Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Critical Race Theory (CRT), which has certainly been welcomed by many churches, seems to teach that white people are categorically racists, no matter what they’ve said and done. Such teaching is racist in itself, and yet because I’m white and that’s rational, it’s not politically correct to suggest.
Without the Bible and the God of the Bible, the world doesn’t make sense!
When we throw out God and the Bible, sinful people attempt to make their own rules, according to their own desires and set up themselves as their own adjudicators.
The truth is, God made everything, so He gets to make the rules and He has appointed Himself as judge of these rules. Just because we don’t like His rules, doesn’t mean we can change or disobey them. Isn’t this the same way we should parent and play sport?
While we live among a world in chaos, let us not join the chaos. Rather, we have the message of hope and truth, which is in the Word which became flesh, Jesus Christ. Christ is coming to judge the world, but He also came to save the world, so that all who believe in Him (which includes submitting to Him as Lord) will not be judged, but receive eternal life.
