Liverpool’s Super Sunday finally put to bed the cloud of 2015 when Gerrard famously slipped at a similar point of the season as Liverpool comfortably won 2-0 at home to Chelsea.
This heaps the pressure on City with four matches to play.
Liverpool were simply too good for Chelsea – with only 1 defeat all season now look to finish in style and hope to pip City for their first title in 29 years. City however didn’t slip on Sunday, as they won 3-1 away in London to Crystal Palace.
City were too strong as they play 8 times in April, including 3 fixtures with Spurs, & needing to win they did, too strong for in form Palace and now have 5 Premier League fixates to win back to back Championships.
The race for the champion’s league places is still on and extremely close for the all-important final positons.
Spurs won 4-0 in their new stadium to move 3rd in the table in the last remaining automatic spot, whilst United also won at home, this time to West Ham united who were arguably lucky.
The gunners are yet to play and Chelsea lost to Liverpool – meaning only 4 points separates the 4 clubs for the final 2 positions.
Saturday’s other fixtures saw Bournemouth dispose of relegation threatened Brighton 5-0 in a drubbing that has asked questions of Brighton’s managers & players.
Relegated Fulham won 2-0 at home to Everton whilst Southampton moved away from the danger zone with a 3-1 win at home to Wolves.
The big 6 pointer of the round was Burnley at home to Cardiff in a must win for both. Burnley were to strong winning 2-0 to move them 11 points clear & Cardiff 5 points from their nearest rival in the bottom 3.
