'The Story of God' with Morgan Freeman, telecasted by the National Geographic Channel, will officially return for a second season.
The show debuted in April earlier this year with six episodes, and became popular among viewers for its unique content which sees Freeman on a journey to answer questions of faith.
Season 2 is expected to debut in early 2017 with three new episodes investigating topics like "Proof of a Singular Deity" and "Is there a Chosen One?"
Freeman, host and executive producer of the show, said, "I had quite a journey last season, but not just in miles covered."
"I met incredible people who opened my eyes and my mind to new ideas and new ways of thinking about faith, the world and all of humanity."
"I barely scratched the surface of what we can learn, and I'm looking forward to continuing this search for the meaning of life and religion and everything in between."
In an interview with Variety, the 79-year-old revealed that he was bowled over by the concept of the show, in which he "barely scratched the surface" of what can be learnt about the religion and meaning of life.
"One of the things that surround life is the idea of death, and what comes with the idea of death is what comes after that."
The second season will be aired in 171 countries, in 45 languages.
The Emmy-nominated series is the fourth highest-ranked program of all the time on the National Geographic Channel, and is also the top show of 2016 so far. The show scored 7.7 out of 10 in IMDb.
Freeman will appear in the remake of Bibical classic 'Ben-Hur' as Sheik Ilderim, set to hit the big screen on August 19.
