Well known across the Uniting Church and within the UnitingCare Ageing Service Group, Eric has been Acting Director Ministry and Mission in a part time capacity since November 2008.
Over many years, Eric has acquired great understanding, knowledge and experience within the Uniting Church and is widely respected for his wise counsel and gentle pastoral ministry.
With a strong focus on people and relationships, Eric hopes to engage with the six UnitingCare Ageing regions, the Presbyteries and wider Synod to continue strengthening ministry and mission with older people as part the Uniting Church.
"I am conscious of the privilege and responsibilities of this role and am mindful of the opportunity I have been given to represent the love and grace of God."
"The staff in UnitingCare Ageing are committed to delivering the best possible care to the people we serve and I hope to help them by strengthening the quality and integration of pastoral and spiritual care as a significant part of the total care given." Eric said.
Eric was ordained in October 1972 after experiencing a strong sense of God's call and joined UnitingCare Ageing as a Chaplain at Northaven in November 2005. He later became one of the Regional Coordinating Chaplains for the Northern Sydney Region.
Prior to joining UnitingCare Ageing, Eric ministered in many placements, including as Presbytery Minister with the Georges' River Presbytery, Port Macquarie Parish, Tamworth Parish and Cowra Parish. During these placements, Eric also held leadership positions within the Presbytery, including Chairperson of the Mid North Coast Presbytery, Chairperson of Lifeline Midcoast Board and Telephone Counsellor for Lifeline.
Describing the position as his most challenging to date, Eric believes that his previous roles have provided him with experience, knowledge and understanding to meet the expectations and challenges of this role.
"This role is about being a spiritual compass within the organisation."
"I hope to encourage the understanding that who we are and what we do as an organisation of care with older people is a vital and relevant ministry and mission of the Uniting Church."
Eric brings to this role a very deep understanding of the needs of older people and he understands the spiritual needs of people as they age. Eric has exceptional interpersonal skills and his gentle touch has brought great healing and understanding to UnitingCare Ageing, particularly over recent months while he has been in the Acting role.
Eric will formally commence in the role as Director Ministry and Mission on 1 August 2009.
