The Real Easter Egg is being launched after the Church of England noticed that none of the 80 million Easter eggs on sale this year mentioned the Christian understanding of Easter on their boxes.
The Real Easter Egg's packaging will explain the meaning behind the most important festival in the Christian calendar.
"Many believe that chocolate eggs represent the boulder that sealed his tomb," it reads.
The Real Easter Egg will go on sale next year priced £3.99, with a share of the profits going to charities working in the developing world and the Fairtrade Foundation.
Although the Church of England expects demand to be high, some supermarkets have been reluctant to take up the eggs.
A spokesperson for the Church of England said, "Despite the obvious demand not all UK supermarkets are planning to stock the egg next year."
The Church of England is looking to church schools in particular to endorse the product and has produced educational resources to accompany the eggs that will teach children about citizenship, the meaning of Easter, the role of Fairtrade and the place of charitable giving.
The Rt Rev, Nigel McCulloch, Bishop of Manchester, said, "The Real Easter Egg gives church schools their first ever chance to buy an Easter egg that not only tastes good but does good.
"I believe there will be widespread support for the product from the faith community with many others likely to be interested.
"We hope that all our supermarkets will stock the first and only Easter egg in the UK that explains the significance of Easter and, through the charitable donation, brings to light the Easter themes of hope and new life."
