With filming for the new Star Trek series kicking off this fall, showrunner Bryan Fuller gave fans a taste of what to expect when the eagerly awaited, modern rendition of the beloved sci-fi series returns to the small-screen.
Fuller, who has previously worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, pointed out in an interview with Collider that the new material will not be subject to network broadcast standards and practices as it will be available on streaming service CBS All Access.
"It will likely affect us more in terms of what we can do graphically," Fuller said, though admitting the Star Trek universe may not be the place for much profanity.
When quizzed on whether the show will feature a LGBTQ character, Fuller came one step away from confirming: "I think the progressive audience that loves Star Trek will be happy that we're continuing that tradition."
The upcoming series is set to debut on CBS in January, before switching over to the broadcasting group's on-demand service, and is set to differ from previous story formats by having one story over arch the entire 13 episode series.
