Favre against the odds made his first appearance in the NFL with Glanville running him for four plays in the final game of the season. Two interceptions and a long range sack, were not the ideal start to one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
In the following off season Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers , in what would become the single biggest trade reward ,in the history of the game. General Manager Ron Wolf had Favre in his sights the previous year, before the Falcons took him with the previous pick.
A number of local sources say during the physical after the trade, Favre was diagnosed with a vascular necrosis of the hip, the same degenerative condition that ended Bo Jackson's football career, and doctors recommended his physical be failed, which would default the trade. Green Bay general manager Ron Wolf overruled them.
In 1992 Brett Favre started as the first choice quarterback for the Green Bay Packers ,which would be the beginning of Favre's record breaking continual game streak in the NFL.
The streak included 16 consecutive seasons without missing a game for the Packers, including two Super Bowl appearances, with one victory.
In 2008 Brett Favre signed a one year deal with arch rivals the New York Jets, turning a city against him ,that had been his family for so many NFL seasons.
After one season with the Jets, Favre made it even harder to like him by singing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Over two seasons with the Vikings Favre has had numerous ups and downs, breaking numerous records, passing and rushing. Also the turbulent mess that hasn't gone away yet, Favre faces accusations of being unfaithful to his wife with Jennifer Sterger. The NFL has concluded their investigation but is yet to release and of the details.
More recently Brett's injuries have started to catch up with him, a shoulder injury finally ended his run of 298 straight games in the NFL.
Favre, will always be a love him or hate him type of character ,and that's how he will always be remembered. If he had retired after 16 seasons with Green Bay and a Super Bowl ring his image would have left a much sweeter taste in the NFL supporter's mouths. But that's simply not Brett's style.
In a game that is up there with the most physically demanding in the world, love him or hate him you can't deny his durability as a player and as an athlete, 298 games well done Brett.
