New York City's tap water has grabbed the top prize in New York State's Regional Metro Tap Water Taste Test competition on Thursday.
The competition was held at the American Museum of Natural History where visitors got to gargle and swish tap water from five different New York regions and rank them by taste.
The news was announced by The Department of Environmental Protection in a press release who also mentioned that New York City is the only city in America that runs largely on an unfiltered drinking water supply, made possible by their watershed protection effort.
New York City's water was up against Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester and Orange counties.
DEP's Acting Commissioner Vincent Sapienza stated that generations ago New Yorkers had the "foresight to construct the incredible network of infrastructure" that carries water from as far away as 125 miles, providing the city with a "robust supply of high-quality drinking water from a pristine and protected watershed."
New York City's tap water will now compete in a state wide competition on September 2.
