Jeannie Longo, from France, is one of the greatest Olympic athletes!
Her career is unmatched in world sport. She was born in 1958 and has amassed an amazing record of cycling victories. At the Olympics:
First Olympics in 1984 (LA)
She won gold in the 1996 Road Race and silver at the 1992 Road Race
Silver (1996) and Bronze (2000) in the Time Trial.
All up, she has competed at seven Olympics!
At her final Olympics, 2008 (aged 50), she finished 4th in the road time trial, just two seconds behind the bronze medal.
Her amazing athletic record does not stop at the Olympics, however. In other cycling events, Longo has won five World Road titles, four Time Trial titles and four Track titles along with numerous women's Tour de France titles.
There are few other athletes in world sport with such a record, and none in the competitive world of international cycling. Longo's event, the women's Road Race, will take place at Box Hill, Surrey on Sunday 29 July. Moreover at 53 Jeannie Longo will be competing once again. (blogs.theprovince.com)
